Chichen Itza

The archaeological site of Chichen Itza blossomed between 400 and 1200 A.C., a period in which first the Mayan, and later the Mayan together with the Toltecs, developed an impressive knowledge on astronomy, mathematics and architecture. As a result of the endeavors left by the people at Chichen Itza and other similar sites throughout the Maya World, Mayan culture is one of the most recognizable cultures in the world. The site encompasses an area of 25 km2. During its glory days some 20.000 people belonged to the city and today, approximately 500 buildings have been uncovered. Since 1988 Chichen Itza has been considered Heritage of Humankind by the United Nations and more recently it has received the distinction of gaining recognition as one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the Modern World.'

For further information, you may contact Julián Briceño Carreño , a tour guide who could take you on a trip into the Maya's past. Kind regards from one of the new ‘Wonders of the World' Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico.
