How to get to Chichen Itza

Transportation to the Site

In order to get to Chichen Itza, there are two bus lines departing from Cancun's downtown station on the hour. First Class buses are available through companies such as ADO or Oriente, and take only 2.5 hours. The trip may also be booked on second class, which travels for close to 3.5 hours on its way through several villages and towns. It is recommended to double-check bus schedules since the same companies offer trips to Mérida at the same hours. A direct bus line from Villa Hermosa or Tabasco to Chichen does not exist as of yet; the only other possibilities are via Mérida or Chetumal. Travelers who take the option of renting a car should be careful in choosing the right road, because the freeway and the toll highway are both numbered 180. The Toll road is in better condition and provides a more direct route.
