About Flaco

Elias Mora Gordinez, nicknamed Flaco (Skinny in Spanish) was born in Quepos, the town only a couple of kilometres from the Manuel National Park. As a young lad he scouted around a then little known Manual Antonio for tourists who would throw him a couple of bucks for sighting animals, and this is how he learnt his excellent english and honed his animal spotting ability. As he grew into early adult years, so grew the popularity of Costa Rica's smallest national park, it is now one of the nation's premier tourist locations.

Witnessing this growth, Elias realised it was possible to make a living amongst the animals and beautiful beaches that make up the park and set about making his amateur tours into professional and government recognised tours. He received a qualification by attending the National Institute of Learning (INA) and specialised in the biology of Costa Rican Flora and Fauna. This helped him become a recognised guide and a member of the Association for Naturalist Guides.

He has been a valued member of the Traverse America team and we recommend anyone to contact Elias when in the area, as he provides great tour commentaries through the park and can also take you on mangrove and specialist bird-watching tours.
