When to Go

In the rainy season from May to September it is best to carry an umbrella or raincoat. The recommended season to visit Chichen Itza is in the winter, in the early morning hours. The temperature is still agreeable in the winter, some 25 degrees Celsius on average, and you have the added bonus of avoiding large crowds.

What to Bring

To visit the site it is recommended that you wear tennis shoes or small boots, a big hat (sombrero) or cap. Take sufficient water with you because you will walk some 2.5 or 3 kilometers and due to the heat. it is necessary to keep yourself hydrated the whole time. If taking a video camera you will need to pay $35 pesos onto of your entrance ticket.

Site Facilities

The facilities found at the archaeological site include an ATM, money exchange, restaurants, luggage storage service (free of charge) and registered jewelry shops. Five-star hotels can be found around Chichen; the Mayaland Hotel was founded in 1930. There are also plenty of inns and motels at affordable prices. The neighboring town of Pisté offers a wide range of buffet and á la carte restaurants, specializing in local cuisine.
