'Villa de la Purísima Concepción de Rivas de Nicaragua' or simply Rivas, is the city that witnessed two great battles against the American invader William Walker. Despite the locals defeat in both occasions, they put an end to this man's dream of domination over Central America. Rivas is, above all, the starting point to every surrounding tourist destination, but it also features an interesting colonial section, museums with pre-Columbian artifacts and fossils exhibits, Nicaragua's celebrities cemetery and the lovely view from Carazo Hill.
