Lavalleja Travel Information
For those in search of a destination more oriented to natural scenery and mountain ranges, the district of Lavalleja is definitely the place to go. The city of Minas, 120 km from Montevideo, serves as its capital. Breath-taking mountain scenery and lush surroundings characterize Lavalleja, a dazzling combination of forests, hills and a widely colorful flora.
The area is also dotted with lovely waterfalls, such as the so-called "Del Penitente" (the Penitent´s) and Villa Serrana´s; the latter has become a major venue for stylized constructions designed by the renowned architect Julio Vilamajó. Last but not least, there is "Salus" tourist complex that proudly shows its masterpiece: the Puma´s Fountain.
