Rafting Rio Toro
Grade 3-4 difficulty
The trip entails over 45 exciting and continuous rapids that move through 16 kilometers of deep-canyon gorges passing waterfalls in a tropical canyon. Tour includes transport, fruit, guide, and a great Costa Rican typical lunch at the Desafio River Ranch. Prior rafting experience is not necessary, though physical fitness and being able to swim is recommended. You need to take a set of dry clothing, a towel, footwear that can get wet (no flip-flops) and sunscreen. Pick-up can be arranged from San Jose for $95 per person with a minimum of 4 people.

Half-day Rafting
Grade 2-3 difficulty.
Rio Bolsa offers 20 rapids over 12km situated close to the town of La Fortuna affording views of the Arenal Volcano along the way. If you haven't rafted before then this is a great introduction to the sport. You will spend 2 hours in the rapids of one of Costa Rica's nicest rivers and have time in the day to try other activities. The tour includes lunch, fruit, guide and transport. You need to take a set of dry clothing, a towel, footwear that can get wet (no flip-flops) and sunscreen. Pick-up can be arranged from San Jose for $85 per person with a minimum of 4 people.

Safari Float
Grade 1 difficulty.
Float down river in a raft with no paddling or rapids, it is a completely relaxing trip. The guides look out for birds, mammals, reptiles along the way. The tour includes naturalist guide, snack and drinks.

Enjoy the white water and wildlife just 15 minutes from La Fortuna. This is also suitable for first-timers. The tour includes transport, safety kayaker, and lunch.

Kayak on Lake Arenal
This is a 2-hour paddle on Central America's 2nd largest lake accompanied by a naturalist guide. From the lake there are post-card perfect views of the Arenal Volcano and a variety of birds can be spotted. With any luck Howler monkeys can be spotted in the trees by the shore.

Horse Riding
Horseback to La Fortuna Waterfall
Take a guided horse ride to the 150-foot La Fortuna waterfall, on a path that takes in the green country side and views of the Arenal Volcano. Once at the park entrance you hike 20 mins to the natural pool and waterfall. The excursion lasts about 4 hours.

Horseback La Fortuna to Monteverde
Drive to Lake Arenal, where a boat will be waiting to take you across to the other side. You will then ride on horses along the beautiful Lake Arenal trail for about 2.5 hours affording views of the active Arenal Volcano and taking in the wildlife. Afterwards you will have transport waiting for you to take you the rest of the way to Montverde dropping you off at the hotel of your choice. The trip can be done in the reverse, from Monteverde to La Fortuna.

Venado Caves
You drive 45mins to the private farm where the 6 million year old cave system was recently discovered. Here you put on your provided rubber boots and a helmet before hiking to the cave entrance. You start out by jumping into the river with your flashlight and walk/swim into the caves. In some areas you will have to crawl through small spaces, climb up rock formations and wade through water with only your head above the water level. Bats, spiders, tarantula, and scorpions are sometimes spotted on the tour. You need to wear old shorts and T-shirt, socks for the rubber boots, and bring along a change of clothing, towel and soap. No cameras and no jewellery!!

Canyoneering: The Lost Canyon
Drive to a spot in the hills where you put on all the gear - helmet, harness, carabinas. From here it is a short walk to the first waterfall. You will hike and rappels down 8 amazing waterfalls in a beautiful river canyon that gradually get bigger and bigger. The rappels range from 60m to 20m. The tour includes, guide, and the gear and a great typical Costa Rican lunch. You need to wear trainers or reef sandals (they will get wet) and a change of clothes for after the tour. You will be drenched!!

Fourtrax ATV
You take the ATVs on the back roads around La Fortuna through banana, papaya, yucca, plantain, avocado, mango and orange plantations. There may also be the opportunity to go to the La Fortuna Waterfall lookout and a swimming hole for swimming.You need to wear long pants, covered shoes and take your cameras, swimming costume and towel.

Arenal Bungee
New to La Fortuna stands the 40 meter high tower of Adrenalin. The tower offers the chance to bungee jump, to be catapulted sky high, or take a giant swing flying like superman. For bungee they give you the option of harnessing the chord to your ankles, waist or body and you can choose the water emersion which will dip of into the pool below. The full adrenaline package will have you bungee jump twice, once with water emersion, take the rocket launcher, and the giant swing for 100US$. Just doing three of the activities will cost you 80US$ and two 58US$. A single activity will set you back $40.
